Dr. Kara Brown is from Washington State, where she developed a love of horses and competed on the Hunter/Jumper circuit. After attending veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, she completed an equine private practice internship at Woodside Equine Clinic, followed by a Large Animal hospital internship at the University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center. Following this, she went on to a fellowship in Large Animal Cardiology and Ultrasound, and a residency in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, also at New Bolton Center. She became a diplomat of the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2021 and is currently an Assistant Professor of Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation at New Bolton Center. Her clinical interests include poor performance in the equine athlete, and her current research is focused on pathology of the cervical vertebral column, diagnostic imaging of the musculoskeletal system (in particular, positron emission tomography, computed tomography and ultrasound), and the effects of pharmaceuticals on Orthobiologic products.
