Debbie Spike-Pierce received her DVM from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. Upon graduation she entered practice with her father, a solo equine practitioner, working primarily on Standardbred racehorses in Michigan. From 1994-1995 she completed an internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. For the next three years she became the assistant to Dr. Larry Bramlage working with him outside of surgery in lameness and diagnostic imaging. In 1998 she joined the ambulatory department of Rood and Riddle focusing on diagnostic imaging, lameness, and public sales of young Thoroughbreds. She became a partner in the practice in 2002 and has been the President and CEO since 2018. In 2017 she received her MBA from Ohio University. Dr. Spike-Pierce has spoken locally and abroad on radiographic changes in TB yearlings and how they relate to performance. She is active in organized veterinary medicine and is a Past-President of the Kentucky Association of Equine Practitioners and the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association. She has served on many committees and the Board of Directors for the AAEP. Debbie and her husband Scott, also a DVM, own a Thoroughbred farm in Paris, KY. They have two daughters, Vivian and Audra.
